Mrs. Vrinda J. Benegal

Mrs. Vrinda J. Benegal (26th July 1954), was a Library & Information Scientist at the Raman Research Institute Library and she retired as Assistant Librarian.

Early Years and Education

Mrs. Vrinda was born on 26th July 1954 to Sri Panduranga Rao Savkur and Smt. Suman P. Savkur in Bangalore.  She graduated in 1974 with B.Sc degree from Sahyadri College, Shimoga, M.A. (Ancient History & Archaeology) in 1976 and BLibSc in 1979 both from Manasa  Gangothri, University of Mysore, Mysore.


Mrs. Vrinda started her career as a Library Trainee at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1980. In February 1981 she joined the Raman Research Institute as Library Assistant. She retired on the 31st July 2014 after 33 years and 5 months of service as Assistant Librarian.

Professional Contribution

Mrs. Vrinda joined RRI in February 1981. She worked in both book section and serial section till 1990. From 1997 onwards she was made in charge of book section. She was given the responsibility of circulation section in 2003 and she continued with this responsibility until her retirement in July 2014. She had the opportunity of working in various sections of the library at various capabilities during her tenure. She has actively participated and presented papers in international and national conferences.



Mrs. Vrinda is the founder member and life member of Karnataka State Library Association (KALA), Bangalore. She is a member of MILAN  (Mysore University Information and Library Science Alumni Network), Mysore
