ABOUT RRI LIBRARY:

The present library has been developed around the library started by Prof. C. V. Raman . With his varied interests in different branches of science and deep interest in reading, he had added many invaluable books to the library. After the institute's activities enlarged from 1972 onwards, library's collection developed in the new areas of research activities. Its collection is strong in the areas of astronomy and astrophysics, theoretical physics, optics and liquid crystals. Apart from these subjects, there are books on computer science, electronics, scientific biographies, general science, nature and fine arts. It has also a collection of non-book materials like scientific slides, CDROMS and sky surveys(both on paper and CDROMS), audio and video tapes. The Library participates in inter library networking activities and has a good rapport with the libraries in the city as well as outside. It is used not only by the scientists of this institute but also by others belonging to Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, National Aerospace Laboratory, National Center for Biological Sciences and TIFR Center. The library has full text access to several ONLINE JOURNALS.

SERVICES:
Apart from acquiring the books recommended by the users, library offers circulation, reprographic and inter library borrowing services. Journals not subscribed by this library but of marginal interest to RRI scientists and received at Indian Institute of Astrophysics and the National Aerospace Laboratory are displayed at this library on a regular basis. In addition, few journals are accessible under FORSA consortia. The library helps readers with their literature search, and also provides a daily current awareness service about new developments in science. Using LIBSYS software, the library catalogue has been computerized and is now available online to the readers both within and outside the Institute.
