Shri A S Kiran Kumar has served as Chairman, ISRO (2015-2018). He played an important role in the success of the Chandrayaan-1 and the Mars Orbiter Mission along with leading teams working on the design and development of more than 50 electro-optical imaging sensors flown over multiple space-borne platforms. He is presently the Member, Space Commission, Govt. of India and the Chairman, Physical Research Laboratory Management Council. He is a Fellow - National Academy of Engineering, NASI, Indian Society of Remote Sensing among others. He has co-authored over 85 publications in leading journals. He has been honoured with numerous awards including the Padma Shri, Rajyotsava award, International von Karman Wings award and more.
