Rydberg atoms are giant atoms with the outer electron in a highly excited state with large values of the principal quantum number n. Rydberg atoms are highly sensitive to external fields imparting these atoms extraordinary characteristics for Quantum sensing of electromagnetic fields. Rydberg atoms also show strong dipole-dipole and Van der Waals inter-atomic interactions as well as long lifetimes. These unique properties make Rydberg atoms a very versatile platform for quantum sensing, quantum information processing, and quantum simulation of many-body physics.

In this talk, I will present our findings on Doppler-enhanced quantum magnetometry with Rydberg atoms, a technique that leverages the Doppler effect to enhance sensitivity to the magnetic field. We explain and generalize our findings with theoretical modelling and simulations. I will discuss our results on the effect of dephasing on Autler-Townes splitting due to strong inter-atomic interaction in cold Rydberg atoms. I will also talk about the influence of Rydberg excitation and inter-atomic interactions in trap-loss dynamics of cold Rydberg atoms
