Probing the Universe beyond “linear” scales with HI Intensity Mapping

Neutral hydrogen (HI) traces the large-scale distribution of matter in the Universe, providing a crucial link between cosmological structure formation and galaxy evolution. At redshifts where individual HI galaxies become difficult to detect directly, intensity mapping offers a powerful approach by measuring the collective HI emission without resolving individual sources.
In this talk, I will present recent results from HI intensity mapping analyses of MeerKAT surveys at low redshifts. I will discuss the principal challenges involved in extracting the cosmological HI signal from real survey data and describe the strategies developed to mitigate these limitations. I will highlight recent statistically significant results from intensity mapping surveys below redshift 0.5, leading to new constraints on the abundance and large-scale distribution of neutral hydrogen. These results provide important validation of intensity mapping techniques and offer insights on the prospects for forthcoming SKA-Mid surveys.
