From Analogue to Emergent Gravity: three small lessons

The analogue gravity framework uses condensed matter systems to simulate phenomena characteristics of quantum field theory in curved spacetimes (e.g. cosmological particle production or black hole evaporation). In this seminar I will review the state of this field and explore its extension towards the simulation of the emergent gravity paradigm. In doing so I will discuss three lessons that we can draw from this framework in Bose-Einstein condensates about long standing puzzles in black hole thermodynamics and cosmology.

Dr. Stefano Liberati, Full Professor, Astroparticle Group, SISSA.
PhD 2000 (Supervisor D.W. Sciama), Postdoc University of Maryland (Ted Jacobson's group) 2000-2003. 2004-2010 Tenure Track researcher SISSA. 2010-2015 Associate Professor SISSA. 2015-today Full Professor. Since 2018 Coordinator of the Physics Area at SISSA. He is author of about 190 publications on gravitations theory. In particular he works in black hole physics, analogue gravity, quantum gravity phenomenology.
Member of the Steering Committees of the International Society for General Relativity and Gravitation (ISGRG), of the International Society for Relativistic Quantum Information (ISRQI), of the Società Italiana di Relatività Generale e Fisica della Gravitazione (SIGRAV). Also member of FQXi.
