on-equilibrium systems with energy injection at the smallest scales are studied broadly as active matter systems. These systems serve as a model to a wide range of biological and synthetic materials. Most often the activity is considered as self-propulsion. In this talk I will discuss about some models of active materials where the active component is not self-propelled but are acted on by active torques. I will discuss about the phenomenological consequences of the presence of active torques using continuum hydrodynamic models. In particular, I will discuss about the presence of what are now popularly studied as odd terms in active matter hydrodynamics.
