Joining the frontier of experimental Radio Astronomy Capacity building for New Telescopes in pursuit of New Science.

The past decade and a half have been the golden era of experimental radio astronomy. The need for precision measurements of 21cm cosmology has triggered the development of unusual methods and techniques of radio observations, especially at low frequencies. Single dish experiments and technology demonstrator arrays for large future experiments like the SKA, HERA are breeding grounds for low-cost configurable radio telescopes. They can target a small number of high-impact observations and probe the science priority areas for the large observatories like the future Square Kilometer Arrays. 
 

In this talk, I will briefly discuss the precision technology development for global 21cm observation and its contribution to the field of power spectrum measurements - a science priority area of the SKA. I will also discuss how the technology development of 21cm power spectrum measurement enables global 21cm detection corroboration. I will then discuss how technology demonstrators of future large observatories are paving the pathways for new experiments with targeted science goals. Finally, I will further discuss a plan to build up a SKA-Low demonstrator array for deep learning of radio astronomy instrumentation and house several experiments with multifarious science goals.

Short Biography
Nipanjan Patra is a former JAP student (2008) who joined RRI in 2009. She received her PhD in March 2015 (Thesis submitted July 2014). She worked at the University of California t Berkeley from December 2014 to May 2018 concurrently as an independent researcher and a postdoctoral fellow of HERA collaboration. Since October 2018 she has been working as a Research Fellow at Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy, the Curtin University node of the International Center for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR). She is an independent researcher under the Engineering Research for Radio Astronomy Instrumentation Development program of ICRAR.
