Geometric materials such as origami and kirigami can be programmed to take different shapes. On the other hand, elastic materials deform under external or internal body forces and result in instabilities that dramatically modify their morphology. Is there a way to leverage the elasticity of a material so that it can be programmed to take different shapes? In this talk we will see a new class of geometric materials that are pre-strained but can bypasses instabilities and can transform between different shapes with minimal energy input.
