Entanglement in quantum matter: spin liquids and SYK models

Recent decades have seen a transformation of theories of quantum matter, with multi-particle quantum entanglement playing a central role. I will review some advances in the theories of spin liquids, and connect them to observations on insulators, the cuprates, and tweezer arrays of ultracold atoms. Different patterns of entanglement are found in Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev models, and these have been used to understand strange metals and certain black holes.
Short Biography
Subir Sachdev is Herchel Smith Professor of Physics at Harvard University.
He has been elected to national academies of science in India and the United States, and the Royal Society in the U.K. He is a recipient of several awards, including the Dirac Medal from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, and the Lars Onsager Prize from the American Physical Society.
Sachdev has made extensive contributions to the theory of the diverse varieties of states of quantum matter, and of their behavior near quantum phase transitions.
