Determination of Quantum States and the Quantum Measure using Interferometry
Speaker: Sanchari Chakraborti (Raman Research Institute, Bagnalore)
Abstract: Interferometric experiments have been pivotal in testing the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, in precision metrology and in the development of advanced quantum technologies. Here, we introduce an interferometric scheme for the characterization of an unknown quantum state that uses the information processed from interference patterns generated in a single setup without the need to change any experimental settings. We demonstrate an experimental implementation of this technique in a two path interferometer for the reconstruction of qubit states in polarization degree of freedom of light and report the efficacy of this method by computing the fidelity of the reconstructed states. An extension of this interferometric protocol for the characterization of pure qudits in d -dimensional Hilbert space and pure bipartite qubits, will be presented as well.
Further, we explore yet another application of interferometric techniques to study the non-classical nature of quantum measure which forms a basis for the generalized probability theories based on the path integral formalisms. We present an experimental realization of the two-site hopper in an optical setup to infer the value of the quantum measure for a specific event of a photonic system, using the method of event-filtering.
