COLD-ATOM QUANTUM SIMULATIONS AND THERMALISATION CHARACTERISTICS OF SYNTHETIC QUANTUM MATTER

Abstract

Cold-atom quantum simulation of strongly correlated matter represents a frontier of modern physics, with broad multidisciplinary relevance across quantum condensed matter, AMO physics, quantum information, high-energy physics, and even quantum gravity.

During this seminar, we shall discuss how cold-atom systems can simulate complex synthetic quantum matter, including quantum criticality, quantum chaos and non-Fermi liquid properties, as well as characteristics reminiscent of black holes. We shall examine the equilibrium and dynamical properties of these systems under both closed and open quantum system settings. My investigations combine quantum simulations, classical simulations (high-performance computing), and analytical methodologies to uncover unexplored terrain in strongly correlated quantum many-body systems, thereby actively contributing to broad and impactful research programs in modern quantum science and technology

Short Biography
I completed my Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Physics at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College (2009–2012), followed by a Master’s degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2014. I obtained my PhD from the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, with the thesis “Quantum Phase Transitions of Bose Gases Confined in 2D Harmonic Traps and Optical Lattices,” and the degree was conferred by IIT Gandhinagar in August 2020. After briefly continuing as a postdoctoral researcher at the Physical Research Laboratory (Nov 2019-July 2020), I joined the Pitaevskii BEC Center at the University of Trento in August 2020 as a postdoc. Following two promotions in 2023 and 2024, I served there as a senior postdoctoral researcher until the end of 2025. Since early 2026, I have been a postdoctoral researcher at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)
