Generic construction of exact volume-law entangled eigenstates in spin Hamiltonians

A fundamental challenge in understanding thermalization in isolated quantum many-body systems lies in the inherent difficulty in finding exact solutions for excited states of generic non-integrable systems. Here, we propose a method to analytically construct a specific set of athermal volume-law-entangled exact excited eigenstates in a large class of spin Hamiltonians. We first construct a special type of zero energy eigenstates for spin chains and then generalize it to spin models in arbitrary dimensions. We illustrate the power of our method by providing exact analytic expressions for excited eigenstates for several physically relevant integrable and non-integrable spin systems.
