On the origin of cosmic dust and the role of supernovae as dust producers in galaxies

Abstract

In this seminar, I will highlight my (our) research on the origin of cosmic dust in stellar and circumstellar environments, and their role in shaping the galaxies. My focus will be on the role of core-collapse supernovae as dust producers in local galaxies as well as in the early universe. In that connection, I will briefly introduce the general concept of dust production in any extreme astrophysical environment, such as the winds associated with the AGNs (Active galactic nuclei), the red supergiant stars, Wolf-Rayet stars, shocks in colliding winds, pulsating winds of Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars or the expelled envelopes of common-envelope binary systems, along with the explosive events like novae and supernovae. The larger context of the work will be discussed in lights of our Transient Science collaborative network, with emphasis on our James Webb GO (General Observer) Program. Finally, I will talk about the future directions in this field, the projects and prospects of my (our) future group, the interdisciplinary aspects of such research, and importantly, the exciting possible collaborations. I will end with a few words about me as a person, along with my ambitions as a leader in the field.
