Persistence in asymmetric Bronian particle

Abstract

The concept of persistence in non-equilibrium systems has garnered significant attention in the last decade. The phenomenon of persistence is quantified through the persistence probability p(t) defined as the probability that a stochastic variable has not changed sign up to time t. In a large class of systems this probability decays algebraically in time with an exponent that is called the persistence exponent. The simplest system that exhibits such a property is that of Brownian particles where p(t) decays as t^(-1/2). In this talk, the aim is to investigate how this expression for p(t) is modified for a passive and an active asymmetric Brownian particle. Asymmetric particles are important because they are abundant in nature. We show that the estimation of the persistence probability can yield the transport coefficients of an asymmetric particle quite accurately and can be used to analyse the experimental data.
