Wavefront Reconstruction for High Precision Optical Instrumentation

Abstract

I will be beginning the presentation with my work on developing a high-resolution tilt measurement system using a cyclic interferometer. A cyclic configuration is not used much for metrological applications as both beams travel an identical path even though it has excellent stability to external turbulence. By employing a polarization phase shifting interferometry and multiple reflections we showed a cyclic interferometer can measure tilt angles in the sub nanoradian regime. Experimentally we demonstrated precise measurements down to 500 nrad. A new method of polarization phase shifting was also developed as a part of this. Further, I will be discussing my works on developing a reference-free algorithm for wavefront reconstruction in terms of Zernike polynomials from a Hartmanogramm. I will also be presenting my works on the numerical simulation of the wavefront aberrations when a coherent wave propagates through deep turbulence.

Finally, I will be touching on my works in the optical design of a flow cytometer for probing into the DNA content and the current work on developing a semiautomated algorithm for analysing the morphological properties of axons.
