Worldline path integral formalism for QED in intense field backgrounds

Abstract

Abstract: In several physical scenarios, ranging from astrophysical environments to intense laser physics, one encounters effectively classical, strong electromagnetic fields. Presence of such backgrounds has interesting consequences to QED processes. In particular, these processes can be used to probe the non-perturbative sector of QED. The theoretical study of QED in external backgrounds becomes very convenient in an alternative formalism of QFT in terms of Worldline path integrals. In this talk, after a brief introduction to this field and the review of the formalism, we will discuss some of the recent calculations of QED scattering in an arbitrary plane wave backgrounds(imagined as the semiclassical model for a laser pulse) and its implication.
