A series of Pedagogical Lectures titled “Vignyana Patashala” is delivered by an expert in STEM fields.  The lectures will be at the level of  Undergraduate and Graduate students. 

The second set of lectures in the series will be delivered by Professor Abhijit P Deshpande, IIT Madras.

• Introduction to rheology and rheometers; example material systems
• Governing equations for rheometry; Rotational rheometry
• Stress, displacement/velocity gradients, strain, strain rate, convected rates
• Cone and plate geometry, viscometric flows and experimental issues/artefacts
• Primitive models; Examples of response (classic data from textbook/publications) Maxwell model (linear viscoelasticity); Elastic dumbbell (Normal stress differences); FENE dumbbell / PTT model (Steady shear and start-up response; extensional response); Elastoviscoplastic Structural model (yield stress/thixotropy); Giesekus model (LAOS response
