Abstract

The UNO lab was established under the Light and Matter Physics theme in year 2000. The lab acquired an ultrafast Titanium Sapphire laser (generating 100 femtosecond laser pulses) with regenerative amplifier in the same year. Current areas of work in the lab are Nonlinear optics, laser-produced plasmas and laser surface structuring. Continuous wave and pulsed (nanosecond, femtosecond) lasers are used for measuring nonlinear absorption and refraction in novel materials, generating plasmas and characterizing them, and patterning exotic structures on solid surfaces. In this talk I will present an overview of the research work carried out in the UNO lab in the past years in the above areas.
